WHAT HAPPENED

Unifor updated its members on September 16, five days after the parties' September 11 target for a tentative deal passed without one. It said the two sides 'remain in conciliation' and that it 'will not be in a legal strike position as of September 20, 2026'. The contract expires at 11:59 p.m. that day. Unifor also said Stellantis has yet to confirm plans for its Windsor assembly plant and its Etobicoke casting plant.

Why this matters

Unifor says the contract's expiry on September 20 will end its term without a strike or lockout. Whether Brampton gets a buyer, a new vehicle program or neither is still open, and so are Windsor's and Etobicoke's plans.

Unifor says it will not be in a legal strike position when its Stellantis contract expires on September 20, 2026. The two sides remain in conciliation, which the union says Ontario law requires to finish before either side can strike or lock out. It says there will be no tentative settlement without 'a suitable resolution' for Brampton members.
